Global Swim’a’thon

The Global Swim’a’thon is an annual event held by Rotary International to raise funds for the eradication of polio. Rotorua’s event will be held on Sunday 16 May at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.

So what do you have to do? It’s simple, just enter a team (1 to 4 people), nominate a distance you are going to swim, and ask people to sponsor you for doing so. You can nominate to swim anywhere between 500m and 2,500m (1,000m usually takes between 15 and 25 minutes).

The aim is to get as many people around the world swimming at Swim’a’thon events, and raise sponsorship for their efforts. All funds raised will go to Rotary International Polio Campaign and other charities via normal club channels.

This year, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to contribute $2 for every $1 we raise! That means every $1 raised at our Swim’a’thon is one child vaccinated against polio. Let’s eradicate polio together!
